Fuelled by a passion for patient care, I am currently focused on leveraging digital medicine, health technology, and AI to overcome challenges in managing type 2 diabetes at the primary care level. My commitment extends to exploring minimal yet effective psychological interventions to alleviate emotional distress among patients, thereby enhancing their quality of life. Being always on the look-out and futuristic in my personal and professional vocations, I also initiated the Digital Health Research Initiative during my tenure at CRU, and got myself trained and credentialed in No Code AI and Machine Learning: Building Data Science Solutions from MIT and in AI For Healthcare Programme from NUS. I further my closer-up exposure to AI/ML in healthcare and clinical by being a visiting scholar to the Department of Biomedical Informatics in NUS during my sabbatical leave. Below are manuscript titles on AI in medicine, and on type 2 diabetes research quality and care in digital age and some of the mobile app and AI chatbots. Currently working on an open science and AI-powered publishing model and science communication system to significantly improve not just the speed but also the transparency of authorship and peer-review processes including reproducibility of scientific research especially in clinical and biomedical research. To this end, collaborations are being networked with individuals and publishers including the developer of the Scitex https://scitex.ai/about/, JIMR News and Perspectives, local and international colleagues in CoARA and from the open science training workshop in Beijing cohort 2023.

MODULE 2 - How have you contributed to the development of individuals?
I participated as a mentor for the WONCA Working Party on Research Mentorship Program in collaboration with the Young Doctor Movement, where I will guide three mentees: Jing Fang (China), Muhammad Thoriq (Indonesia/Australia), and Rica Dale Butay (Philippines), to develop high-quality clinical research proposals that are relevant, feasible, efficient and impactful. This will last for six months from December 2024 to May/June 2025.
Dr. Helen Zhao who is now with Zhejiang Dongfang Polytechnic, China. The project "The expectations and acceptability of a smart nursing home model among Chinese elderly people" had explored Chinese elderly and family members about their expectations and willingness to move to a smart nursing home. A new questionnaire was created for a survey in four representative cities in China. Dr. Yuanyuan Zhao has since progressed to become an academician at the School of Smart Health and Wellness (Health Medical College), Zhejiang Dongfang Polytechnic, China. She is given the trust to develop a laboratory of Smart Health Elderly Service and Management, and responsible for facilitating international collaboration on projects related to smart nursing for older adults which include technology development, education programs (student and lecturer exchange programs). She is leading an educational reform initiative to integrate GenAI into all majors within their Smart Health Schools(about 1200 students in total). She has also completed a Chinese-language textbook tailored for this program.
In collaboration with the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), I supervised Dr. Al Sawad Ayat Ali to lead a project focused on enhancing the self-management skills of patients with chronic kidney disease. The project, funded by the Technological Horizons for Compound Fertilizer Factory in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, aimed to improve patient outcomes and quality of life. Dr. Al Sawad Ayat Ali has been as an assistant director of nursing services for research and EPB, also became as an external member of an academic faculty in IAU nursing college teaching nursing students in preparation Year. She was pivotal in established intensive EBP continuing education and skills building program based on ARCC model. She is active in clinical research, completed 4 researches, in which 2 of them under peer reviewed journals, and further facilitated 11 projects.
I supervised Dr. Kamilya Jamel Baljon to lead a research initiative in partnership with Ummu Al-Qura University, Saudi Arabia. The study focused on assessing the impact of BRM techniques on various aspects of labour and aimed to contribute to improving maternal healthcare practices. Dr. Kamilya has been promoted as a professor assistant in the nursing college, and is responsible for teaching OBG-YN nursing, pediatric nursing, fundamental nursing, medical surgical nursing, and critical care nursing. She is also teaching master of the community health and bridging nursing program. She is a course coordinator for OBG-YN nursing and pediatric nursing beside being a member of the midwifery program in my nursing college. She is an active member in some committees such as the high committee for curriculums, internal ship committee, and occupation committee, a committee of the Promotion of Mental Health.
